Good genetics produce good results, but great genetics raise the bar even higher. Steers from multi-year Top Dollar Angus rancher Scott Casey, El Dorado Springs, MO, rang the bell earlier this summer grading 52.5% Prime and CAB (94.8% Choice and above), with only 1.7% YG4s and zero YG5s.
That’s an amazing combination of quality and red meat yield! YG4 percentages often run 10% to 20% on higher grading cattle. Casey’s steers finished 1,450 lbs. live out of a western Kansas feedyard, and their grid premium topped $70 per head. Congratulations to Scott and also to Hinkle’s Prime Cut Angus, whose genetics were a significant part of this tremendous success story.
